Brits are receiving relatively few spam calls each month compared to the rest of the world but when fraudulent calls do get through they are most commonly tax scams that try to defraud by impersonating His Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC). New research from security firm Hiya said the average UK phone owners received three spam calls per month from January to June 2024. Microsoft says it plans to let some Windows users test a controversial artificial intelligence (AI) feature soon after previously delaying its release owing to major privacy concerns. In May, the tech giant announced a slew of new Windows 11 PCs under new Copilot+ branding. BT and EE TV customers could be in for a surprise next week as how they record and watch BBC programmes on their set top boxes is about to change. Customers with the BT or EE TV Box Pro set-top box can currently record any BBC programme directly onto the hard drive of the box to store it indefinitely and watch it back at any time – even when using ‘Internet Mode’. Sky has confirmed that it will cancel the subscriptions of some of its customers in October as the TV firm continues to restrict channel access for those still using some of its oldest TV equipment. Express.co.uk reported in May that Sky was removing access to many standard definition (SD) channels to make way for high definition (HD) channels across the board. The crackdown on streaming sports and movies illegally continues with the latest arrests blocking thousands from watching Sky content for a much cheaper price.
