World’s largest cities revealed with 3 countries in top 10 twice | World | News


The world’s largest cities by population for 2024 have been revealed, with three countries securing two spots each in the top 10.

According to the latest figures by Jagran Josh, Tokyo, Japan, remains the world’s most populous city despite a slight decline in population.

India and China feature twice in the top ranks, reflecting the rapid urban growth in these regions.

At the top of the list is Tokyo, Japan, with a population of 37,115,035, down by 0.21 percent from 2023. Delhi, India, ranks second, with a population of 33,807,403, marking a notable growth rate of 2.63 percent. Shanghai, China, comes in third with 29,867,918 people, growing by 2.25 percent over the past year.

Dhaka, Bangladesh, is another rapidly growing city, with a 3.13 percent increase, bringing its population to 23,935,652. In fifth place is Sao Paulo, Brazil, with a population of 22,806,704, growing by 0.83 percent.

Other notable entries include Cairo, Egypt, and Mexico City, which maintain spots in the top 10 with populations of 22,623,874 and 22,505,315, respectively. Beijing, China, and Mumbai, India, also rank among the world’s largest cities, continuing to experience strong growth.

Japan is unique in featuring two cities in the top 10 despite negative growth.

Along with Tokyo, Osaka rounds out the list with a population of 18,967,459, though it saw a 0.24 percent decrease.
