Top cruise destinations include famous city break with great scenery | Cruise | Travel

The holiday cover company Avanti Travel Insurance has shared the most popular destinations for a cruise holiday, according to their customers.

Many holidaymakers enjoy taking a break on board a cruise ship because, in addition to the many activities and amenities on board during sea days, they allow tourists to get a taste of a number of countries.

According to the company, Tampa in Florida is the world’s top cruise destination, with a number of the most popular American cruise companies using it to start and finish journeys.

Located on the Gulf Coast, Tampa is home to a number of fun activities that the whole family will enjoy, including the Busch Gardens amusement park, ZooTampa and The Florida Aquarium.

Travellers taking it easily can also appreciate a short journey on foot along the Tampa Riverwalk, a path running down the Hillsborough River that showcases some of the best views in the city.

Another destination that is popular with holidaymakers is Cozumel, an island off the coast of Mexico in the Caribbean Sea.

However, whilst the island is small, it has an incredibly rich history to offer visitors. Some of the most popular attractions on Cozumel are the Mayan Ruins, which showcase life there around 1,000 years ago.

Avanti Travel Insurance recommended Cozumel in particular to elderly tourists, stating it has warm weather and a laid back atmosphere.

Nevertheless, tourists do not need to go to the Caribbean to experience one of the world’s best cruise destinations, with Barcelona ranking third.

The major Spanish city has a particularly good reputation for food and drink, offering no fewer than 28 different Michelin-starred restaurants and many markets that stock local delicacies.

Barcelona is also known for its world-class architecture, with the city being home to the famous Sagrada Familia, a beautiful cathedral that has been under construction since 1882.
