Russia elections LIVE: High noon for Putin as rebels plan to throw vote into chaos | World | News

Supporters of Alexei Navalny, the pro-democracry campaigner widely believed to have been murdered on the orders of Vladimir Putin in a Siberian jail, are planning to send message to the world with a series of noon protests on the last day of the widely discredited Presidential elections.

Meanwhile disruption has continued across the country, with attacks on polling stations and widespread disruption in border areas involving pro-Ukrainian paramilitary units made up of exiled Russians hostile to the 71-year-old leader.

A statement on the Navalny’s campaign website said: “We want this dark time to end. We want a clear, normal future

“But we, citizens of our country, with our pain and our hope, are not noticeable either to the authorities or to each other.

“AT NOON on Sunday, March 17, the last day of voting, when we come to the polling stations, we will show others and see for ourselves that there are many of us . We can become a force that cannot be hidden behind drawn percentages.”

The Freedom of Russian Legion, one of the three anti-Putin armed units that have been carrying out incursions into Russia‘s western regions of Kursk and Belgorod since March 13, took to the messaging platform Telegram on Saturday to announce they were preparing a huge attack against Russian military facilities and positions.

The message read: “Attention! Dear residents of Belgorod and Belgorod Oblast! Today [March 16] at 5pm [2pm GMT] a massive attack will be launched on military facilities and positions of the Russian Armed Forces in Belgorod.

“We call on everyone who has not yet managed to leave the region to immediately take cover. You don’t have to become a human shield for Putin’s security troops, take care of yourself and your loved ones.”
