Paintings by Felix Schlesinger (1833-1910)
Felix Schlesinger (1833-1910) was a famous German painter who specialized in showing scenes of everyday family life and children playing in the countryside. He started learning to paint in Hamburg and later studied in Antwerp, Düsseldorf, and Paris.
From 1861 to 1863, he worked in Frankfurt before settling in Munich, where he became well-known for his paintings. His artworks often featured children, possibly even his own, in various stages of growing up.
At first, his paintings were more like stories, but as he got older, his style became more realistic and expressive. He passed away in 1910 at the age of 77.
Schlesinger’s paintings, loved for their humor and sensitivity, became very popular in the UK and US. Today, you can find his artworks in many famous art museums, like the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, Kunsthalle Hamburg, and the Milwaukee Art Museum in Wisconsin, USA.
