The Met Office has issued another round of weather alerts this morning as heavy rain and flooding ravages the UK. The forecaster urged people to check if their property “could be at risk of flooding” and if so told them to prepare a “flood plan and an emergency flood kit”. A yellow warning for rain was issued from 12.30am until 8pm on Monday in areas in North West England, Wales and the West Midlands. The hi-tech borehole was put in as an alternative to using mains water as part of a mission to become more eco-friendly due to the “climate emergency”. Britons’ energy bills could be cheaper if the Government ditches “clunky old rules” about power generation, a former Tory minister has said. John Penrose, an MP from 2005 to 2024, called for the modernisation of the country’s energy system to lower costs and decarbonise faster. A blazing inferno engulfed a van shutting down a busy London street and damaging multiple cars with a fire so hot it “melted the road”. Terrified residents in Kingsway, Enfield, made at least 11 emergency calls to London Fire Brigade around 3.30pm this afternoon (Monday). The residential street, which is close to Southbury Overground Station, was packed with parked cars and after the van caught fire fire of them suffered damage.  Witness Mohamed Elmi took this video and photographs of the scene showing fire crews dampening down the smouldering wreckage of the van which had been completely gutted by flames.  ... A soldier, who made a reckless snap decision to cross over the DMZ into North Korea, has been handed a prison sentence of one year following his dramatic dash across the border. The defector, Travis King, 24, faced an army tribunal and entered guilty pleas for a series of charges including desertion and the assault of a non-commissioned officer.
