Android phone with the ‘best’ camera costs just £349 – but hurry, sale ends today

You might assume that the most expensive Apple iPhone 15 Pro or Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra have the best possible cameras on a smartphone – but according to the results of a camera test by one of the world’s best known tech YouTubers, you can get the best overall phone camera by spending hundreds of pounds less – but hurry, as the best sale price ends today, Tuesday 9 January.

YouTuber MKBHD posted a video on Tuesday called ‘The New Best Smartphone Camera!’ where he and his team took several photos using 20 popular smartphones and then got his audience (he currently has 18.1 million subscribers) to vote on their favourite shots. It’s an experiment he does every year with the latest phones, the twist being no one knows which phone they are voting for.

The method helps keep the results unbiased, as the photos are not labelled with the name phone that took them.

When the tally of votes was counted, the Google Pixel 7a won the public vote after taking photos in several different lighting conditions. Amazingly, that phone currently costs just £379, £70 less than its £449 RRP.

It’s good news if you want the ‘best’ phone camera out there, as £379 is an absolute steal for a phone of the Pixel’s quality. What’s more, Currys says if you apply the code GOOGLE30 at checkout, you can get a further £30 off, making the Pixel 7a £349.

Argos is also offering the same £349 price when you use the code GOOGLEPIXEL7A at checkout.

Both offers run until the end of Tuesday 9 January, so be quick.

The Pixel 7a is the cheapest phone in the Google Pixel line up, and indeed beat the Pixel 8 Pro and folding phone Pixel Fold into second and third in MKBHD’s test – impressive stuff from Google. The iPhone 15 Pro only managed to come seventh while the Galaxy S23 Ultra was languishing down in sixteenth.
