Prince Harry and Meghan Markle: Colombia tour ‘taxing’ | Royal | News

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle drawing so much attention with everything they do must be “taxing on their relationship”, a royal expert has said.

Writer and Broadcaster Esther Krakue was on Sky News to discuss the Sussexes embarking on a ‘faux royal tour’ to Colombia for a four-day visit following an invite from the Vice President.

She said as Harry and Meghan aren’t working royals and therefore not on an official tour, there will be “consequences” if they do something that is completely out of step with what the royal family would do.

“He’s still the King’s son. It’s the worst of both worlds because they’re not banned by royal protocol but they’re also trying to find their way and their purpose,” Ms Krakue said.

“They’re a couple that commands attention no matter where they go, and so they can never even sort of fail in secret. I suspect that can be mentally taxing, and that’s certainly taxing on the relationship, no matter what anyone says.”

Colombia Vice President Francia Márquez said: “Their visit comes at a particularly significant time, as it precedes the first Global Ministerial Conference on Ending Violence Against Children, to be held in Colombia this November.

“The forthcoming conference will unveil a comprehensive framework for creating safer physical and digital spaces, tackling issues such as cyberbullying, online exploitation, and the mental health impacts of these threats…During their visit, The Duke and Duchess, as well as The Archewell Foundation, will engage in several activities related to this important topic.”
