Dutch anti-EU firebrand Geert Wilders wins Dutch election: Exit poll | World | News

Far-right populist Geert Wilders has won the most votes Wednesday in the Dutch election with a landslide margin, according to an exit poll, putting him in line to lead talks to form a new ruling coalition and possibly become the country’s Prime Minister. In a major shock, the exit poll published by the national broadcaster NOS said Wilders’ Party for Freedom (PVV) won 35 seats in the 150-seat lower house of parliament, more than twice the 17 he won at the last election. If confirmed when votes are counted, a Wilders victory would send a seismic shock through European politics. ... Read more

We decided to go ahead with treatment immediately. In the beginning of treatment, I felt awful. I was exhausted, and there was little I could do. It took time to come to terms with the diagnosis. How I feel mentally still changes day to day. Overall, the emotional impact and experience hasn’t been what ... Read more

Making Treatment Work for You

By Larry Gershon, as told to Stephanie Watson  I was diagnosed with lung cancer by accident. In 2013, I went to urgent care with cold and asthma symptoms. When the doctor took an X-ray to make sure I didn’t have pneumonia, it showed a spot on my lung. After more scans, a surgical biopsy, and a brain MRI, I was diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer. I was in total disbelief. Then my oncologist said something that really uplifted me. She told me that even though my cancer wasn’t curable, people can live long and active lives while dealing with ... Read more

A Day in My Life With Inoperable Lung Cancer

By Amy McMillin, as told to Kendall Morgan When I found out I had lung cancer, I was working full time. That hasn’t changed. I am still working full time, and my family tries to stick with the same routine we had prior to my diagnosis, with some exceptions and adjustments, of course.  I have two kids. My oldest is away at college and my youngest can drive now, so I don’t have to do the morning school routine.  This is a huge help since fatigue is one of the biggest side effects of my treatment. Thankfully, also, my mother-in-law ... Read more

Israel Hamas ceasefire agreed in exchange for release of 50 hostages | Politics | News

Israel has approved a deal — facilitated by Qatar — that would permit a truce with Palestine in exchange for the release of 50 hostages. The governments, however, made clear that this deal is a ceasefire, and “not an end to the fighting”. The deal calls for a four-day cease-fire, during which Israel will halt its military offensive in Gaza while Hamas frees “at least” 50 of the roughly 240 hostages it and other militants are holding, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office said. The first hostages to be released are women and children. “The government of Israel is committed to ... Read more

Talking About Your Myasthenia Gravis

They were just going to the movies. But the theater was way too hot. By the time they left, he couldn’t even hold his head up. He couldn’t speak. And he certainly couldn’t walk. “Fortunately, I had my wheelchair,” says Zach McCallum. “But I was a mess.” McCallum, 55, was diagnosed with myasthenia gravis (MG) in 2015. Since then, he’s spoken a lot about his condition. But he felt “really embarrassed” that day. It was early in his illness, and he didn’t want his sister to see him like that. Then she gave him a message that stuck with him, ... Read more
